Septic Repairs and Maintenance

Common Septic Problems

Effluent Pipe Clogging

The pipe sending the effluent from the septic tank to the drain field can sometimes clog up with things other than effluent. Only effluent can properly travel through the effluent pipe and into the delicate drain field pipes to get reabsorbed into the earth. When things that do not break down and get reabsorbed try to squeeze their way through the effluent pipes and into the leach field they can cause a backup.

Septic Pipes are Clogged

When you send things that are not septic safe down the drain the septic pipes are likely to clog or backup. Your septic system is very sensitive to chemicals and large non absorbable items. These items can cause damage to the septic pipes and the septic tank. Getting the septic repairs done as soon as they start to backup will allow it to last longer.

Inlet Pipe to Septic Tank is Clogged or Backed Up

There are many things that can have a negative affect on the inlet pipes in your septic tank. The job of the inlet pipe is to allow the wastewater from your home into the septic tank without allowing any of the scum from the septic tank out. It should also prevent any backflow of wastewater into your home from the septic tank. If anything harmful was sent down the drain of your home, it can negatively affect your inlet pipe causing a backup.

Leach Field is backing up

Once the septic tank has separated the effluent from the sludge, the effluent goes through the effluent pipes leading to the leach field where it will ultimately be reabsorbed into the earth surrounding the drain field. When the leach field pipes back up the water will start to pool above the drain field and start to back up into the drain field pipes.
